Learning by Doing
Every learning session is interactive, never a static worksheet. Kids build real skills at their own pace, catching up or getting ahead without ever feeling stuck.

Level is a learning platform built on an idea: that every kid can level up with the right motivation.

So we rebuilt learning from the ground up, rooted in over 40 years of motivation research, inspired by world-class game design, and guided by teachers and learning scientists.

With Level, learning adapts to each kid, sticking with them until it clicks. And they’re motivated to come back, because every week brings a new adventure drawn from the real world, like ocean exploration, hip-hop choreography, or rocket science, to finally answer the question: why do I need to learn this?
Focused learning takes real energy, so Break Time is part of the process. There’s room to play, breathe, or dive into this week’s adventure. And when the lesson’s done, kids are free to be kids. Level isn’t designed to hold their attention forever. It’s designed to make the most of their time learning.

Inspiring weekly adventures built to spark curiosity, featuring real people doing amazing things, to finally answer the question: why do I need to learn this?
Every kid has a guide who knows where they’re starting and how to help: a nudge, then a new way to think about it, then a full walkthrough.

Two bodies of research support every lesson: what brings a student to the work, and what helps them learn once they are there.
Level is built on Self-Determination Theory, one of the most validated frameworks in motivation science, spanning over 40 years of research. It holds that real, lasting motivation comes from three basic psychological needs:
When all three are in place, motivation stops being manufactured and becomes something kids build for themselves.
Yearsof Peer-Reviewed Research

Every lesson in Level is built around well-evidenced instructional methods that shape what gets taught, when support appears, how students practice, and when that support gets out of the way.
When a new concept is introduced, Level makes expert thinking visible: which method to choose, what to notice, when to stop and check, and how to recognize a wrong path. Learning scientists call this cognitive apprenticeship. As a student becomes more capable, that support fades.
Helping too quickly can short-circuit learning. Level gives students room to think, try, make mistakes, and try again before stepping in. When support is needed, it begins with a hint rather than an answer. Productive struggle is where competence is built.
Level doesn’t simply serve up blocks of the same kind of problem. New learning, earlier material, targeted support, and fluency practice are deliberately composed into each session. Related skills are mixed so students have to recognize what a problem is asking, not just repeat the same procedure.
Once students can decode, what they know matters enormously to what they can understand. Level organizes reading around coherent knowledge domains so vocabulary and background knowledge accumulate over time. Each text helps prepare students for the next.
A wrong answer is information. Level tracks how a student performs across different levels of thinking and what a mistake may reveal about their understanding. A score tells you a student got 73 percent correct; Level is designed to identify where their thinking broke down.
